Council on Foundations
Affinity Groups
Affinity groups and grantmaker associations represent a
variety of different issues and population groups. They are a
source for up-to-date grantmaking information in their areas of
interest. Some groups emphasize networking and information exchange
among members, while others advocate for an issue or cause within
philanthropy and beyond. Generally, these groups serve the grantmaking
community, although some include grantee organizations as members.
The typical group is a network managed by volunteers, although
a growing number are becoming nonprofit organizations in their
own right.
The variety of these organizations
provides rich resources for Council members and others. Many foundations
that are Council members are also members of one or more affinity
groups. This list is intended for grantmakers and trustees seeking
a greater understanding of a particular area of philanthropy.
